Philomath Ms. Wilson Joins Literature Department

Ms. Wilson is new to Chamblee Charter High and our Literature department. Upon hearing about Chamblee’s good reputation and it’s opportunities, she accepted a position teaching ESOL and 9th grade literature.

“Dekalb has really good opportunities for teachers that want to learn more skills,” Wilson said.

Wilson attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she studied  English. She began her career working with Puerto Rican students in her hometown of Chicago, where she taught for about ten years.

Wilson loves literature and learning. She intends to learn Spanish and take the exam to become a math teacher soon. She also knows sign language and can write shorthand.

“I have this goal of getting every certificate. I want to be able to put on my resume the infinity symbol,” said Wilson.

She also loves both coffee and tea,  the movie Coming to America, and her cat Britney, named after Britney Spears.

Wilson explains that she wants her students to grow and learn skills they can continue to use after they leave her class. She wants not only teach her students concepts but to teach them to teach themselves.

“Advice I would give to students would be to read everyday. Read a book you enjoy outside of what your teachers assign you, you can never learn enough words,” Wilson says.
