The Return of Mattair

Coach Mattair has returned to Chamblee Charter High after spending a year in Dallas, Texas.

“If I’m coming back in Dekalb County, Chamblee is the best school in Dekalb,” Mattair said.

He has taken the positions of Special Ed teacher in the Social Studies department and the head coach of the football team.  Mattair is originally from Florida, where he grew up in a six sibling household.

“I grew up in a household of six, so I know the importance of working as a team,” Mattair told.

He then attended school at Alabama A&M University where he got his Bachelor of Arts and Master in Social Work and he then attended Georgia State University for his professional Education Certifications in Special Education, Health, and Physical Education. Mattair has been teaching for around seven years and coaching for around ten. He spends most of his spare time with his wife, or working out in the gym.

“I don’t do that much, I’m kind of boring.” Mattair says laughing.

As a teacher, Mattair’s goals are to motivate students, and keep them focused and engaged.

“Doing this [school] day after day it gets redundant,” he explains.

Since the majority of his students are freshman he just wants them to realize the importance of passing their classes, because if you don’t pass you have to retake it. As for the football team, Mattair hopes for a good season.

“We’re just trying to keep up team spirit and work hard.” Mattair says.
