As Homecoming week quickly approaches, students are searching for creative ways to make affordable cute costumes for the dress-up day themes. Homecoming week brings much excitement and celebration, and what better way to turn up the fun than with dress-up week themes? This year’s themes include Jet Lag Day, Dynamic Duos, Barbie and Ken, Rockstars vs. Rapstars, and Color Wars. These spirit days give students an opportunity to dress up and get creative with costumes to match the day’s theme, breaking the dullness of normal school fashion.
Monday: Jet Lag Day
On Jet Lag Day, you get to embrace your traveler spirit and show your tired side. Roll out of bed in your comfiest PJs and come straight to school. It’s all about embracing the disoriented tired look, like how you would look if you lost sleep from traveling all day. Students enjoy being comfortable at school, so Jet Lag Day is the perfect day to start off the long week.
“I like pajama day because I like being comfortable,” said Annabella Lespinasse (‘26).
The school dress code usually prevents students from wearing pajamas, so they are excited when they get a chance to wear them.
“I like pajama day because you can dress comfortably, you can’t usually wear pajamas at school,” said Peoples (‘26).
Tuesday: Dynamic Duo
Dynamic duo is all about finding your partner in crime. Grab your bestie and dress up as an iconic pair. Whether it is peanut butter and jelly, Smokey and Craig, or your favorite TV show duo, the possibilities are endless. It’s a chance to show your creative collaboration with your friends!
With countless dynamic duos to choose from, some students like food duos the best.
“I like the duo’s peanut butter and jelly or cookies and milk, ” said Lespinasse.
Others enjoy dressing up like the iconic NBA player duos like Shaq and Kobe or Lebron James and Dwayne Wade..
“My dream dynamic duo would probably be a basketball duo like Shaq and Kobe,” Aidan Wilburg (‘26).
Wednesday: Barbie and Ken
On Wednesday you get to see a glimpse into the charming world of Barbie and Ken. Embrace the trendy style with big smiles, and fantastic plastic vibes. Dress up in stylish outfits and accessorize with jewelry. It’s your chance to show off your inner fashionista and bring these iconic dolls to life.
For Barbie and Ken Day, students plan to incorporate their personal style by wearing things they already like to wear while accessorizing with pink.
“I would probably wear a skirt because I like wearing skirts and I would also buy pink accessories to accessorize,” said Lespinasse.
Some students are even getting their outfit inspiration from the Barbie movie that recently came out.
“For Barbie and Ken Day I will probably wear a jean vest cause Ken wore a jean vest in the movie,” said Peoples.
Thursday: Rockstars vs. Rapstars
Get ready to rock and rap with this exciting dress-up theme. Show off your inner rockstar with wild hair, guitars, and leather jackets. Or show off your rapstar persona with big chains, bling, and streetwear. It’s a clash of different music genres, where you can express your love for music and showcase your unique style.
With many different rockstars and rapstars to choose from, there is an endless amount of outfits people can create.
“I will probably dress up as the rapper 21 Savage because his outfit would be so fun to recreate,” said Lespinasse.
Friday: Color Wars
Color Wars is an explosion of color to get into the Hoco spirit. Each grade level has specific colors: seniors wear blue, juniors wear white, sophomores wear gray, and freshmen wear yellow. Students dress out head to toe in their assigned colors to see which grade level has the most spirit. Get creative with your outfits and accessorize like crazy to show your support!
Students are going to try and dress out head to toe to show their school spirit and create the best Color War outfit.
“I’m going to try and go all out wearing gray, trying to create the best head to toe gray outfit,” said Lespinasse.
Homecoming week is going to be exciting and filled with so much fun! Many students enjoy seeing all the creative outfits others wear.
“My favorite part of Homecoming week is seeing all the different outfits and the creativity from everyone is cool,” said Lespinasse.
Homecoming dress-up week is a fantastic opportunity for students to display their creativity, school spirit, and personal style. Dressing up in themed outfits, coordinating with friends, and going all out with elaborate outfits creates a sense of excitement within the school community.
