Ken Orkee claims he is just an “average guy.” But ask anyone to tell you to point out this sophomore and they all say the same thing – look for his hair. Ken’s large, brown, poofy hair makes him easy to spot across the cafeteria, though his choice of hairstyle is not under his control.
“My friends don’t let me cut it,” says Ken.
More specifically, the girls will not let him touch his hair. The guys just seem to be jealous.
He does not mind though, saying that it is “interesting and sparks conversation.”
There is no big secret to the hair either, “I just wash it in the morning,” says Ken.
As an only child, Chamblee is Ken’s eighth school since kindergarten. He was born in Orange County, California, and recently came to Georgia from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
“We move a lot,” shrugs Ken, as if it is no big deal. Atlanta is the least favorite place he has lived because it “has too many arrogant people.”
It does not take this poofy-haired sophomore much time to settle in. In fact, Ken seems to have moved into the spotlight, literally.
Recently performing in the Dinner Theatre, Ken played the role of Jesus in the drama class production of God and Poker and of the Prince in Rapunzel Uncut. He has been involved in drama in some way at every school. His favorite role ever was Romeo, which he played back in the fifth grade.
Ken describes himself as “odd and spastic,” citing examples of playing Dungeons and Dragons on weekends with his friends, being a god at his favorite X-Box game, Halo, and using predominately chopsticks to eat. Ken is going back to Pennsylvania this winter break to visit his relatives in Boiling Springs. Ken has plans to continue his acting career through high school and into college. Be sure to be on the lookout for the guy with bug, brown, poofy hair.
