Mama mia! The Mad Italian has a casual, café-style setting and serves delicious Italian cuisine.
From far down the long stretch of Savoy Drive, you can see the goofy logo of an Italian man with a big nose and bushy eyebrows lit up on the Mad Italian’s sign.
The Mad Italian menu has combined Philadelphia cheese steaks and traditional Italian dishes since the opening of the restaurant in 1973. Now with a Smyrna franchise in addition to the Chamblee location, the Mad Italian is a popular eatery in Atlanta.
For hoagies and cheese steaks, the Mad Italian’s prized “proper roll” is the only thing they serve. The founders’ quest for the perfect Italian roll took them to Port Chester, New York, where the Cassone Bakery bakes all of the Mad Italiab’s rolls. With the exception of the “proper rolls,” all food served at the Mad Italian is homemade.
From ho agie sandwiches served with chips and a pickle to a variety of cheesy pasta, the food is hot, fresh, and delicious. The Mad Italian menu lists some of the same pastas as the Macaroni Grill and other more upscale Italian restaurants for a much cheaper price.
The atmosphere is very relaxed. Waiters are more focused on serving meals rather than singing Italian opera and twirling towels over their heads. Meals are more comfortable this way.
If you want fresh cannelloni florentine stuffed with spinach and veal or a famous cheese steak, the Mad Italian is the top place to order. So why go to some expensive Italian bistro when you can get the same plate of pasta right around the corner?
Go mad!
