Chamblee students are looking forward to their summer vacation as this long-awaited break is only one more month away. More than just a break from school, summer is a student’s chance to explore their interests while working, volunteering, traveling, and more. With an endless list of options to choose from, our peers have a variety of schemes and ambitions planned for this summer.
“I am going to start a band, and we are going to perform, which will be really fun. We are still thinking about the name, but we are probably going to perform classical music and maybe a little slam metal,” said Sasha Lapayeva (‘27).
Other students have plans to travel out of town during the break.
“I am going to Orlando for a volleyball tournament for six days with my friends. I might go to England, Italy, and Spain with my cousin to visit my aunt. I might also go to Jamaica,” said Summer Palmer (‘27).
Getting a job during the summer is a great opportunity because students can work more frequently than they can during the school year. Chamblee students are taking advantage of this by either looking for a job or joining the workforce now.
“I am planning to work. There are some places in my neighborhood that need [employees], like the farmers market and one of the cinemas that is around,” said Hunter Allen (‘27).
Victoria Parks (‘27) feels confident about her upcoming summer productivity since she is already working.
“I do not feel any pressure at all because I already got a job, and I make good money over there. I got everything I need. I work at Publix, and it has a nice vibe,” she said.
Avi Sherris (‘27) also has a secure job and schedule for his summer.
“I got a job set up, so I will be doing that for most of the day. Afterwards, I am planning to just go to the gym and have free time, so on the weekends, I can have an entire day to do whatever, like hang out with my friends,” he said.
Students are prioritizing their free time this summer among their many responsibilities.
“I prefer free time [during the summer] because you get to spend time with your family. You don’t have to worry about the work that the school gives you,” said Victoria Parks (‘27).
An increasing number of students are also using their summer vacation to get ahead academically by preparing for college, taking classes, and applying for internships.
“I plan on doing more stuff for college, like applying for some programs. This summer is definitely going to be more packed. I have never done any of these programs, so I am a little worried about time management and being able to relax while still working,” said Sophia Liniado (‘27).
Parents are a big motivator behind this preparation.
“My parents want me to learn ahead of time and just do stuff more often when I have more break time because it is a lot more time to study,” said David Zhang (‘25).
Whether or not you expect this summer to be your dream summer, you can still make the most of it by finding opportunities perfect for you, your family and friends, and your goals.
