College tours are a big step for upperclassmen, it’s the peephole of a new adult life where they get to go see their future and what it might be like for them. In a college tour, visitors have the chance to interact with students, financial aid, admissions staff, and faculty members to gain insights into class sizes, campus life, and specific details about the application process and scholarships. Most students end up going on multiple tours, Chamblee students are no exception.
“I’ve only toured Alabama and Georgia,” said Henry Farnell (´25). “I’ve toured Clemson, UGA, USC, Tennessee, and NC State,” said Ava Pellettieri (´25).
Some students heavily recommend touring the University of Tennessee, because they described it as a very engaging and organized tour. Some advice that students gave for rising seniors and juniors was to s sooner rather than later because you’ll want to do as many as possible.
“Start towards the end of Junior year, that’s a good time,” said Farnell.
Some important aspects they found out were where the dorms are and when they can start applying.
“The most important aspects of the visit are definitely who is touring you but also the walkability of the campus and how close dorms are to classes / how spread out the campus is,” said Pellettieri.
College can be a scary place, many feel it almost decides your future, so they want to know everything about it before you start.
“The process is fun, but also stressful and bittersweet because you’re planning your first years of adulthood and living away from parents and friends,” said Farnell.
Another thing you want to try to learn is about sports and activities you can do after.
“Activities like finance club and entrepreneurial opportunities stood out to me because they align with my potential majors,” said Farnell.
Most of the time if you visit college you will probably stay with a friend or older sibling. They will give you lots of helpful advice and tell you all about that college. Overall you just want to find a place where you will fit in and make lots of new friends and just do everything you love. College is one of the first steps to becoming an adult so you want to make sure to find somewhere that you love and not just for the social aspects but also for the learning process and making sure your grades don’t slip.
