As we approach the cold months and the holidays, we also near the end of the semester. As usual, this is an indication of finals for the first semester of the school year. Students have mixed feelings about what to expect for finals this semester. Everyone has very different expectations about what to look for with their exams, especially since many of these finals can determine final grades for some of the students at Chamblee High School. Some students are prepared and have already started studying while others are still preparing for their finals.
Diego Quintero (‘25) says that he has already had a jump start reviewing for the final.
“I’ve been studying. I’ve been trying to recall past units that we were learning about, or just like flashcards,” said Quintero.
Marlita Cadena (25’) has also started studying very hard to prepare for her finals as she knows this will affect her grades.
“I’m currently studying 3 hours every day for the subjects I struggle with. I have been using study methods and I do study groups with others,” said Cadena.
Many students always have some classes that they may be more focused on with others. For some students they have to focus more on their core classes, for others their electives may be harder.
“I think I should be preparing a lot more than I am, especially for my Biology and Math finals because I struggle in those classes the most,” said Hillary Chay Chay (’27). “ I’ve been trying to pay a lot more attention in class, focus, and try to remember and take notes.” Chay is focusing more on her difficult classes as those are the classes that she struggles in.
Ava Norris (‘28) and Jamie Allison (‘28) think similar to Chay. They think students should study but also review through notes.
“I recommend other students to go over notes and assignments,” said Norris.
It would also be helpful to ask teachers for help.
“Yeah, I recommend to just go over stuff, ask your teachers, if you need more help,” said Allison.
However, to prepare for finals week students need to be prepared educationally but also mentally. What will students need the morning of the finals? Most of the students responded to the question by saying they would need to be well-fed and also very well-rested.
“On the morning of finals, I’ll probably need some coffee to stay awake since I’ll be studying late the night before,” said Nhu Le (‘25)
So to all the students, study, prepare, and rest, for winter break is very near.
