It is snowing in Atlanta! The last time it snowed in Atlanta was in 2022, and it was less than an inch. On January 10, 2025, the people of Georgia went crazy because it finally snowed over two inches. This short snowpocalypse was a fun way to enter the new year for Chamblee’s students; the students got a snow day for the first time in years. However, some were unsure it would snow because of previous false calls.
“I was kind of skeptical about if it was going to snow because they have said it a lot in past years and it never really does,” said Alexandra Tunini (‘26).
In contrast, some students were very hopeful and believed it would snow.
“I thought it was gonna snow because it said eight to ten inches on the weather app and that is the record for snow Atlanta has had so I knew it was going to even if it was only a little,” said Helen Trost (‘27).
One Chamblee senior woke up early to enjoy the full day because he knew the snow wouldn’t last long.
“I was so happy that it snowed. When I woke up around 7:30 a.m., the ground was covered, and I was so excited that I went outside immediately,” said Henry Farnell (’25).
Some Chamblee students went sledding at the nearby middle school.
“I went sledding on the big hill that Chamblee Middle School sits on because there was a lot of snow. A lot of people were there so I knew that it would be good,” said Lucas Winters (’28).

Considering it was around 30 degrees all day, many bundled up to brace the cold.
“I wore two shirts, one zip-up hoodie, one puffer jacket, two pants, and doubled-up socks.
Although most students had fun in the snow, other students could not enjoy the day because of their workload.
“I wasn’t happy about the amount of work I got because I couldn’t go out for hours,” said Tunini.
Lauren Madison (‘27) doesn’t think teachers should assign work to students on a snow day.
“I know that the teachers are only doing what they’re told, and most of them don’t even want to bother giving us work, but I think that they need to let kids take a break. I think they should let students enjoy something outside for once because snow doesn’t happen every day.”
