Lately, the only thing on my mind has been Title Fight. I have just been listening to all of their songs, and I can’t get over how good they are. I had known about Title Fight for a while but only fully listened to their discography a month or two ago. All I have to say is: wow. The growth of the band is clearly visible in each album they put out. Every album is so different from the last and still, they are all amazing. I like Title Fight in the way that they did what they wanted, were true to themselves, and stayed that way even after they gained popularity. Their discography is truly wonderful, and I love all of their albums so much.
Starting off with their first album, The Last Thing You’ll Forget, I must say this album was not what I expected it to be. It was released in 2009, and it’s pretty unknown compared to their other works. Listening to this album for the first time through was a great experience. “No One Stays At The Top Forever” and “Anaconda Sniper” are my favorites of the album. It’s a very underrated album and I thought it wouldn’t be good due to the lack of streams. However, it is very enjoyable and I like it a lot.
Their second album, Shed, kept up with the hardcore sound, but it had some more shoegaze songs in the mix. Their most popular song of all time, “Safe in Your Skin,” comes from this album. While it’s a great song, it is not my personal favorite. This album kickstarted their popularity. With so many other great hits like “Shed,” “27,” and “Where Am I?” it is quite a popular album. My favorites are definitely “Crescent-Shaped Depression” and “27.” These two songs just scratch my brain in a different way. They are always stuck in my head and I just love them so much. Overall, this album is amazing, and a very enjoyable listen.
Moving on to the third album, Floral Green, this is where the band gets more experimental and they start switching up their genres. Within this album lies one of their most popular and best songs in my opinion: “Head in the Ceiling Fan.” This song is the most different out of any of the songs in this album. It’s slow, with no screaming, and mainly guitar. What makes it so amazing is the beautiful melody of the guitar and the structure of the song in general. I love this song so much and I also love the music video they made for it. It’s just so unserious compared to the song and I enjoyed it. Within this album are other jams like “Lefty” and “In-Between.” All of the songs on this album are really captivating and this album is one of my favorites of all time.
Finally, the last album they released was Hyperview. Title Fight released Hyperview in 2015, and this is their best album yet. Every single song is the best thing I have ever heard. I’ve been playing it on repeat for the past month. One of my favorite songs of all time, “Mrahc,” is on this album. Some of my other favorites on this album are “Hypernight,” “Rose of Sharon,” and “Liar’s Love.” Hyperview is very different from the rest of their releases, as it is more shoegaze and not necessarily hardcore anymore.
Overall, Title Fight has an amazing selection of music, and the difference between all their albums is astonishing. The way they sound like two different bands when you compare their first album to their last is something I rarely see done right. Title Fight is a very talented band, and I hope they become active again.
