The boys’ Varsity track and field team is back for the 2002 season. Last year, the boys finished second in Region 5-AAA, third in DeKalb County, and fourth in the state.
They have a new head coach, Erik Thompson. The assistant coach this year is Pat White. Veteran Coach Perry Abrams gives tips and pointers to help the team become successful. Assistant coach White says that one of their weaknesses will be “lack of experience.”
Their strength is their most experienced player, Junior Bruno Parker. He has been running for seven years.
He participates in the 4×4 and the triple jump. Bruno says, “We will have the most positive season Chamblee track and field has ever experienced.” Coach White mentions that there are players involved in other sports who will soon be participating in track and field. “We’ll improve once the [winter] sports players come back.”
The first meet of the season was canceled due to weather conditions. The next meet will be on March 12 at Panthersville Stadium. Come out and support your speedy Bulldogs.
