At the beginning of every year, the Grammy Awards Ceremony is presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to reflect on the previous year of music. The Grammy Awards are meant to recognize outstanding achievements in music; there are four major categories at the ceremony including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Each of these categories is presented to each genre. The 67th Grammy Awards Ceremony took place on February 2, 2025; along with controversy surrounding the winners.
“Beyoncé should not have won album of the year for Cowboy Carter because her album was not good. Kendrick shouldn’t have won Record of the Year and Sabrina shouldn’t have won the Pop Vocal Album of the Year,” said Delaney Gordon (‘27).
Beyoncé has previously won plenty of awards and students seem to believe she doesn’t deserve her latest ones.
“Honestly, I don’t think Beyonce deserved it, sure her songs are good, but that’s only because she’s overhyped,” said Kimberly Carcamo (‘25). “She has won over 30 Grammy’s but her music isn’t as good as it used to be.”
Beyonce was also awarded Best Country Album, however, students don’t think she even belonged in that category.
“Beyonce did not deserve Best Country Album, her songs were not even country,” said Carcamo.

Students have mixed feelings about whether or not Kendrick Lamar deserved 5 Grammys for his Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.”
“At first the song was good and was very interesting because it was exposing Drake’s scandals, but it did not deserve 5 Grammys,” said Elise Taylor (‘27). “It was overplayed and now it’s annoying.”
Some students believe that Kendrick Lamar has earned his Grammy’s through determined work.
“It’s overplayed, but Kendrick worked hard and it became popular for a reason,” said Savannah Ross (‘27).
Doechii won Best Rap Album for her album Alligator Bites Never Heal, making her the third woman to win this award.
“Doechii winning Best Rap Album was a step in the right direction for women in the Rap Genre, and her speech was very heartwarming,” said Gordon.
Some artists were overlooked when they deserved to be recognized according to students, many hope they will be recognized next year.
“Billie Eilish was robbed, she had an amazing album that many people actually listened to and knew. Billie has won Grammys in the past, but she deserved another for her album Hit Me Hard and Soft and it was heartbreaking to see her so disappointed,” said Gordon.
