There is always something fun about making last-minute plans and decisions; the idea of just going with the flow can be so exciting. If you think about it, though, the idea of crazy plans might sound fun, but having confirmed plans is almost always better.
I’m not saying that every moment of life needs to be scheduled down to the second. Some of my favorite memories are from last-minute plans and unexpected detours. When it comes to actually making plans like a trip or going out for the night or even just having dinner, having a solidified plan helps save time, energy, and a whole lot of relaxation.
The last time my friends said let’s hang out today, it was a lot of fun but very stressful due to last-minute decisions and having many different options, and every time it could always go easier if we just planned it days in advance.
Confirmed plans just add a sense of comfort. Everyone knows what time to go, where to go, and what to expect. There are no unnecessary fights, disagreements, or even waiting for someone else to decide for you. Instead, you can just have fun and enjoy hanging around with your friends. You can just have time to enjoy the fun and not forget about the fun you can have.
There is the common social courtesy factor. When you make plans, you respect everyone’s time and show up. No one wants to waste their time showing up and then fighting or, even worse, having their plans canceled. Having set plans shows that you value the people you hang out with.
That’s not to say that flexibility doesn’t have its place in life. Life is crazy and unpredictable, and sometimes, the best things happen when things don’t go according to plan. But the difference between life and a set plan is that one can be crazy and exciting, while the other can be equally fun but with more foundation.
So, while the idea of crazy plans might seem fun in theory, confirmed plans lead to smoother experiences, strong relationships, and a better time for everyone. At the end of the day, the best moments in life don’t come from unnecessary chaos, they come from being there and enjoying the time you have with the set of people who matter.
