It should be safe to say that every student at Chamblee High School wears clothes. Outfits are a way students can express themselves, show their interests, and connect with other students.
So, how are students at Chamblee picking their outfits? Some students like picking outfits that they’re excited to show off.
“I usually just try to wear something that I find fun and that’ll make me want to go to school,” said Sloane Drummond (‘26).
Other students prioritize picking outfits that are comfortable for the school day.
“I will always almost prioritize comfort over style,” said Nathan Lee (‘29).
Whether it’s style or comfort, many students end up picking their outfits based on what will get them through the day.
When making outfits, some students like to incorporate colors that they enjoy wearing.
“I really like the color green, and orange and purple, sometimes too,” said Phoenix Dechman (‘29). “[When] we went back to school shopping for this year, my mom had to tell me to buy at least one thing that wasn’t green. Normally… I buy all the green things.”
Even if it’s not their favorite color, other students still have colors they like dressing in.
“I wear a lot of pink even though pink isn’t my favorite color,” said Julianna Boedeker (‘28).
Students buy their clothes from many different places and have different ways they like to shop.
“[I shop] more online because, in person, everything’s a lot more expensive. I like shopping at Shein, Temu, and Citi Trend,” said Lyric Moore (‘29)
Online shopping is an easy way to get clothes without the hassle of going to stores, but some students enjoy buying clothes in person more.
“[I prefer shopping] in person,” said Ava Lowe-Pedersen (‘27). “I think you don’t know the quality of the stuff online, [and] you don’t know how it fits you online… It’s a lot of guesswork.”
Fashion trends are another thing students observe when it comes to shopping and dressing for school.
“I don’t know about … wearing flip flops to school without socks on. That’s kind of weird,” said Samuel Russ (‘29).
Other students disliked specific trends, stating that they would not personally choose to incorporate them into their wardrobe.
“I dislike light wash high rise skinny jeans,” said Autumn Bouldin (‘27). “That’s just a choice that I would not decide to wear.”
One particular shoe stood out to a few students as a trend they strongly disliked
“Every time those mischief red boots showed up [at school], I just hated them,” said Lee.
Others agreed, clarifying their dislike of the boots’ size and overall appearance.
“[They were] just weird,” said Mitchell Ricke (‘26). “They were too big and just looked off to me.”
There are other trends that students enjoy seeing people wear.
“I really like New Balance shoes. I have five pairs of [them],” said Boedeker. “I [also] like to wear a lot of jewelry. I try to wear as much jewelry as I can.”
“I’m not very up to date with fashion trends, but… I find it’s nice that people actually talk to each other about fashion and [can say], ‘Oh, that’s cool,’” said William O’Neill (‘26).
Fashion is considered a form of expression and connection, whether you follow trends or not.
“Everyone [should] just have fun with how they dress and wear whatever [they] want to school,” said Drummond. “It’s fun.”
