Socks are basically a necessity if you own closed-toed shoes. Most people have at least one pair of socks, whether or not they’re mismatched. I personally own a ton, and my favorites are my socks with funny designs on them. I think everyone who owns socks has their favorite lengths, as I certainly do. There are a lot of different types, different lengths, and different styles of socks, and they all have their unique properties and uses. I believe there is a hierarchy, however, of the least used to most used sock lengths, depending on comfort, versatility, and overall looks and feels.
Now, the worst sock length of all time is the foot cover/no-show length. I absolutely hate this sock. Even though their purpose is to be worn under low flats and not be visible, I would rather go barefoot than have to wear these socks. They’re so uncomfortable and always fall off in the shoe. If this is anyone’s go-to sock, what is wrong with you? I despise these socks, and I will never willingly wear them.
Second to last are thigh-high socks. The only reason that they’re not last is because they look cute. Other than that, they stink. They always fall off the knee, and I need to keep readjusting them. They also bring unwanted attention, and they are not very flattering unless you have little fat on your thighs. Lots of cartoon characters wear these, and while I love their character designs, I could never dress up as them. These socks are super unconventional and only look good on paper.
Next up on the list are knee-high socks. Honestly, these socks are pretty mediocre. They fall down pretty easily, just like thigh-high socks. However, they’re not as bad. They look pretty good, and they are nice to wear. They are not the best socks, but they’re not the worst.
On the same level as knee-high socks are ankle socks. Ankle socks are slightly better just because they are more comfortable and don’t fall off as much. I feel like for a standard shoe, ankle socks are the go-to. However, I don’t really like them because they feel weird in my opinion. Also, the coverage for the back of the ankle is usually not that good, even though it should cover the entire ankle, and my shoes irritate that area a lot.
Now, the best sock, in my opinion, is the crew sock. This sock is so comfortable, and I can wear it with most of my shoes. They cover all the areas I need, and they don’t fall or have weird texture issues. These socks are the best for any closed-toed shoes, and they’re also the most fun socks. They usually have many fun designs, and they are absolutely the best socks. If you need a type of sock to wear, crew socks have got your back. They are the most versatile and the most comfortable socks you will ever own.
