Being one of Georgia’s most popular conventions, Dragon Con gets lots of attention from convention-lovers throughout the Labor Day weekend. Thousands of people go every year to experience the events, costumes, and games. The event is suitable for people of all ages, ranging from children to adults. Lots of different people go, including highschoolers from Chamblee High School.
There are many reasons why someone might want to go to Dragon Con, and one of the most popular reasons amongst highschoolers is the parade.
“[My favorite part of Dragon Con is] definitely the march where they close down the street and you can see all the cool cosplays,” said Jonathan Robles (‘26).
Others like the consumer aspect of Dragon Con.
“[I like] the Vendor Hall area where you buy everything,” said Kyle Jackowski (‘26).
The Vendor Hall is a part of Dragon Con where small businesses and other creators sell their own art in the form of prints, keychains, plushies, etc. They usually sell art from popular shows, comics, or games.
Some high school students like to stick to the places they have an interest in.
“My dad is really into Battle Box, and they always do stuff there. I spend a lot of time with my dad at the Battle Box,” said Delphi Li Arthur (‘27).
Some people from Chamblee High are going for the first time this year.

“I don’t even know what to expect. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do there, but I’ll be with my friends, so it’ll be fun,” said Juliet Gonzalez (‘27).
Others come back to Dragon Con every year for a multitude of reasons.
“It’s a thing that my friends and I from my old school do to keep in touch. This is my third year going,” said Ava Pyron (‘27).
Some people have been going their whole lives.
“I’ve been going since before I can even remember what age I was, because my dad would always go there,” said Li Arthur.
Something a lot of people do at Dragon Con is dress up.
“I was cosplaying as Mikan Tsumiki [from Danganronpa], and Juliet and I met this Ibuki Mioda [also from Danganronpa] cosplayer,” said Pyron.
Many people enjoyed Dragon Con this year for a lot of reasons.
“We walked around and looked at all the vendors and then got pictures with other cosplayers. We met new people and saw cool things,” said Pyron.
Dragon Con is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
“It’s easy to make connections with people because you all have something in common,” said Gonzalez. “When you see someone in a costume from a show you like, you can walk up to them and start talking to them, and they’re gonna get what you’re talking about immediately. It’s easy to talk to people there because everyone’s a nerd.”
