As the volleyball season here at Chamblee Charter High School comes to a close, the Lady Bulldogs continue to play their hearts out every chance that they get.
Both the varsity players and coaches are immensely proud of the strides they made throughout this monumental season.
“This is probably one of the top two best seasons that we have had since I have been at Chamblee. This is an amazing group of young women who have been a pleasure to be around on and off the court,” said head coach and founder of the volleyball program here at Chamblee, Lorri Reynolds. “We set some pretty high goals for ourselves this season, and are accomplishing them one by one.”
Having just won their third straight region championship on October 11, the entire team is exuberant. Many of the girls recently got their season statistics as well, which allows the team to be analyzed player-by-player.
“We have five players that are in the top ten in their respective stat categories [hitting, digging, setting, etc.]. Becca Evans is currently top five in three categories!” said Coach Reynolds. “We have amazing senior leadership from Kennedy Preval, Camille Vanleer and Hanna Cain.”
These players, along with their teammates, have exceeded expectations this season, and are now putting in all their effort to prove that all that they have accomplished is not in vain.
“As a senior I feel like I play even harder, and people [seniors] have even more urgency, because every game could be our last at this point, and I don’t want this season and these experiences to end. I love Chamblee volleyball and I love my team,” said Preval. “I feel as a team, we’ve grown together and that’s what makes us stronger. When we win, we win for each other and we play to make others better.”
While the season has been long and fruitful, it is far from over. State playoffs are on October 20, where the Lady Bulldogs will be facing some fierce competitors, such as the varsity team from Johnson High School in Gainesville, Georgia.
“I think we have a great pipeline of girls in our program, and I always look forward to what we can do next,” said Reynolds. “But for now, I will enjoy this group of great girls and all that they have accomplished.”
