The bottom floor of Chamblee’s fine arts building has always been a hub for the visual arts, but new staff member Shana Scott is bringing a touch of the arts to the academic building’s first floor, too.

Scott is Chamblee’s new registrar, but her background is actually in art.

She went to an arts magnet school for high school, an environment she says is “very similar to DeKalb School of the Arts.” Scott also received a master’s degree in art administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“Arts administration is the business side of the art world,” said Scott. “I got that degree because I went on and worked at an art museum, so I organized exhibitions and worked in the permanent collection.”

According to Scott, working at the museum is very similar to being a registrar.

“Registration is a catch-all term for data collection,” said Scott. “My job is to register the students. When students come from other schools or to school for the first time, I collect all of their information on their past school grades. We have documents that show where they live and things about their parents. That way, if we need to get in touch with anybody, we know where their address is and we know what their old schools were.”

Although this is her first year as a Chamblee staff member, this is not Scott’s first introduction to CCHS: her husband, David Scott, worked for several years in the math department. She has enjoyed returning to Chamblee, describing the experience as “fun getting to see things from the inside.”

“My favorite things so far are the people that I work with and working with the students,” said Scott. “The counseling staff, especially Ms. Farrey and Ms. Jones — everyone’s been so warm and welcoming, so it’s just been really nice to feel really supported, and everybody that works here works really hard.”
