Staff member Wylene Ward-Claudman is a new counselor at Chamblee Charter High School. Wylene Ward-Claudman, is a new addition to the counseling office staff at Chamblee Charter High School.
“I did have an interest in working at Chamblee,” Claudman said, “I applied last year.”
She received a call letting her know the spot for a new counselor opened and accepted the offer. Before arriving at Chamblee, Claudman taught in Dekalb county for nine years.
“My goal is to help students enjoy high school.” she said. “It was done for me when I was in high school, and I want to share that.”
Helping students reach their goals is something she enjoys. Along with that, shopping, creating personalized gifts, and sports are ways she likes to spend her time.
“I’m also a huge sports fan,” she said. “Except I don’t like golf. It’s boring.”
Claudman received a track scholarship to the University of Toledo in Cleveland. Track and field are her strong suits, but she also has an interest in basketball and football.
“I’m from Ohio,” Claudman said, “Home of the Cavaliers, 2016 champions. ”
Her son is on his school’s football team, therefore allowing her the opportunity to attend regular games and be supportive of the sport. She also hopes to participate in sports encouraging events at Chamblee.
“I run 5ks,” Claudman said.
She’s been running since high school and continues not only the healthy habit of running, but also her habit of sporting the colors blue and gold.
“I bleed blue and gold,” she said, “My high school colors? Blue and gold. My college? Blue and gold. Now everyone around here is talking blue and gold.”
