Chamblee Royalty: Meet CCHS’s 2019 Homecoming King and Queen

With yet another homecoming come and gone, a new king and queen were welcomed to the throne, crowned on November 8 by lasts year’s queen, Cecelia Hicks. The newly inducted royalty were elected by their peers to represent the best of Chamblee, and they are both excited about the opportunity to do so. These students need no introduction, but here they are: the 2019 CCHS Homecoming royalty.
2019 Homecoming Queen Dulce Ruiz
Ruiz is a part of Chamblee’s special education program. Her teacher, Susan Katz, assisted Ruiz with the interview.
What are some of the extracurriculars you are involved in here at school?
Dulce participants in Special Olympics at the local and state level. She is also a part of the Chamblee Connections Club, in which her friend Kathryn Penn nominated her for Homecoming Queen.
What is your favorite part about going to school at Chamblee?
My friends.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Chamblee?
The [homecoming] dance.
What was the best part about homecoming?
The crown.
How did you react to being crowned Homecoming Queen?
I was happy.

What are some of the extracurriculars you are involved in here at school?
President of Electrathon (electric vehicle club), [and a member of] track, NHS (National Honor Society) and Spanish Honor Society.
What is your favorite part about going to school at Chamblee?
I enjoy how many individuals we have at Chamblee. We have so many people who bring in different options and viewpoints. I think it’s wonderful and adds to the value of the school. I also really love the engineering shop.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Chamblee?
Probably being the 800 [meter] and 1600 [meter] region champ [in track and field] and setting the 800-meter school record in the process.
What was the best part about homecoming?
Besides being king? Definitely seeing how excited Dulce was and getting to dance with her.
How did you react to being crowned Homecoming King?
I was surprised that I won Homecoming King. I was (and still am) extremely excited to be able to represent Chamblee as their king.
