Distinguished DeKalb Dozen Receive AP Honors From State

A dozen DeKalb County School District high schools have been recognized as AP Honors Schools by the Georgia Department of Education.

The state named the 2022 AP Honors Schools in eight categories based on the results of 2021 AP courses and exams. A total of 239 schools in Georgia were recognized as AP Honors Schools.

The twelve schools in DeKalb were Chamblee High School, Columbia High School, Cross Keys High School, DeKalb Early College Academy, DeKalb School of the Arts, Druid Hills High School, Dunwoody High School, Lakeside High School, Stephenson High School, Stone Mountain High School, Tapestry Public Charter School, and Tucker High School. 

Chamblee was one of two schools named in five categories, alongside Dunwoody. Both schools were recognized as AP Humanities Schools, AP Humanities Achievement Schools, AP School of Distinctions, AP STEM Schools, and AP STEM Achievement Schools.

“We are committed to expanding opportunities for Georgia students, including in advanced and accelerated coursework,” said superintendent Richard Woods in a press release. “I offer my sincere congratulations to each of this year’s AP Honor Schools, and thank each teacher, student, and school leader who worked hard to create strong AP opportunities in these Georgia schools.”

The Georgia Department of Education first began recognizing AP Honors Schools in 2008.

AP Access and Support Schools

AP Access and Support Schools are defined as schools with at least 30% of AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of three or higher.

Cross Keys High School, DeKalb Early College Academy, DeKalb School of the Arts, Stone Mountain High School, Tapestry Public Charter School, and Tucker High School were all named AP Access and Support Schools.

AP Challenge Schools

AP Challenge Schools are defined as schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students and students testing in English, math, science, and social studies classes.

DeKalb Early College Academy and DeKalb School of the Arts were named AP Challenge Schools.

AP Expansion Schools

AP Expansions Schools are defined schools with 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2020 to May 2021 and a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2020.

Columbia High School was named an AP Expansion School.

AP Humanities Schools

AP Humanities Schools are defined as schools with a minimum of five students testing in each of the following AP categories: one English language arts course, two history/social science courses, one fine arts course, and one world language course.

Chamblee High School and Dunwoody High School were named AP Humanities Schools.

AP Humanities Achievement Schools

AP Humanities Achievement Schools are defined as AP Humanities schools with at least 50% of all AP Humanities exams earning scores of three or higher.

Chamblee High School and Dunwoody High School were named AP Humanities Achievement Schools.

AP Schools of Distinction

AP Schools of Distinction are defined as schools with at least 20% of the total student population taking AP exams and at least 50% of all AP exams earning scores of three or higher.

Chamblee High School, DeKalb School of the Arts, and Dunwoody High School were named AP Schools of Distinction.

AP STEM Schools

AP STEM Schools are defined as schools with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses.

Chamblee High School, Druid Hills High School, Dunwoody High School, Lakeside High School, Stephenson High School, and Tucker High School were named AP STEM Schools.

AP STEM Achievement Schools

AP STEM Achievement Schools are defined as AP STEM schools with at least 50% of all AP STEM exams earning scores of three or higher.​

Chamblee High School, Dunwoody High School, and Lakeside High School were named AP STEM Achievement Schools.
