During halftime of last week’s football game, Ashley Anderson, the sweet, funny cheerleading captain, was crowned the 2007 Homecoming Queen here at Chamblee High School. Her face was full of emotion, with nothing short of happiness.
“I was really surprised and excited; I wasn’t expecting to win at all,” said Anderson.
The first runner-up was Brittney Trice and the second runner-up was Britta Thieleman. Ashley won alongside this year’s Homecoming King Brandon Armstrong, who was crowned during the homecoming pep rally at school.
“When I won homecoming king I had butterflies in my stomach, but I was also happy and surprised,” said Armstrong. “It was touching to know my fellow senior friends voted for me, and I felt like I was actually someone. I kind of felt awkward too, winning dressed as a power puff girl.
After being crowned homecoming queen, Ashley changed into her cheerleading uniform and cheered around the fourth quarter.
“After the game, I went to Waffle House with my friends and just had a fun time together,” said Anderson.
In addition to cheering, Anderson works in a youth rights organization and also participates with the Y-Club.
For fun, Anderson enjoyed hanging out with friends and doing simple things like watching movies, talking, and laughing with those around her. Music also plays an important part in Anderson’s daily life, and her favorite artist of R&B music is Lloyd.
“I like all kinds of music, even country,” said Anderson.
She also loves food, especially Italian food.
“I love to eat anything, but what I like the most is Italian Chicken Mettaconni, it’s my favorite,” said Anderson.
School is also very important to Anderson, and she already has an idea of what she wants to be in the future. Some options in Anderson’s head are colleges like Howard University or The University of Texas. Majoring in communications studies is Anderson’s likely goal.
“In five or ten years I see myself being an entertainment attorney,” said Anderson.
“Ashley is a very outgoing, sweet, reliable, hard-working student,” said cheerleading coach Leila Warren. “She can talk to anyone. Her lack of fear will get her far in life.”
