Chamblee is celebrating Black History with the following events during the month of February:

Black History Month Dress-Up Days

SGA is hosting a series of dress-up days for Black History Month:

  • February 1 — Wear Yellow
  • February 8 — Wear Red
  • February 15 — Wear Green
  • February 22 — Wear Black

Black History Month Bingo

Starting February 1, Black History Month Bingo will begin on the morning announcements.

Bingo winners should bring their bingo cards to room 3125 to receive their prizes.

Black-Owned Businesses Event

The SGA and Black Excellence Understood (BEU) are hosting a youth black-owned business event on Wednesday, February 2. This will take place in the cafeteria during all four lunches and feature small businesses owned by Chamblee students. Some students will be selling items, while others will be advertising their businesses.

Black Lives Matter at DeKalb Schools Week of Action

The DeKalb County School District is hosting a week of action for Black History Month, including a virtual symposium on Wednesday, February 2.

Other Events at Chamblee

From the Bulldog Bulletin: “CHS will also have a poster across from the cafeteria where you can write on and respond to the question “I Love Being Black Because…” The poster will be up all week. Please ask your student to sign it!”

There will also be a Black History Month door decorating contest, with more details to be released in the future.

Black Lives Matter Week

From the Chamblee Bulldog Bulletin:

  • Monday, January 31: “Celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)! Rep your favorite HBCU attire (or colors from an HBCU) to show your support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities!”
  • Tuesday, February 1: “Celebrating Black-owned Businesses and Black Business Leaders! First day of Black History Month! Wear yellow to show your support! Yellow represents inspiration, unity, optimism, and change!  Show your support by purchasing something from a Black-owned business. It could be local, in your neighborhood, or online!”
  • Wednesday, February 2: “Celebrating Black Children! CHS will promote Black-owned youth businesses! Yes, we have CHS students who have their own businesses. Students are encouraged to check out the displays during their lunch.”
  • Thursday, February 3: “Celebrating Black Culture! CHS will have music playing during lunch. Students can listen and dance if they’d like!!”
  • Friday, February 4: “Celebrating Black Lives Matter! Students can celebrate Black lives! Students are encouraged to check out the responses from the poster across from the cafeteria. See what others love about being Black!!”
