Campus Beautification Days Scheduled for Spring

Keegan Brooks, Editor

A series of three campus beautification work days are being held at Chamblee this spring.

The work days will be held at the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, March 30 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 14 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Monday, April 25 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

These work days are being organized by the Chamblee High School PTSA, which has a Beautification Committee that works to improve the appearance of the school’s campus.

“The PTSA at Chamblee, it’s a great organization. We have a Beautification Committee and we do things around the campus. Primarily exterior projects that are not done or are not able to be done by the county or other people that work on our grounds,” said administrative assistant Nancy Farrey. “We spread pine straw, we put annuals out by the bulldog bed. We do weeding, we mulch, we do trash pickup days. Just general kinds of things to make it look tended and cared for.”

The work days are casual events all students are invited to attend. Gloves, tools, water, and snacks will be provided for volunteers.

“We’re going to have three more this spring. They are on Wednesday, March 30; on Thursday, April 14; and […] Monday, April 25. They’re after school, 3:30 till 5:30. They’re very casual, and we are glad to have any students that are able to come,” said Farrey. “We provide the gloves and the tools. We have snacks and water, and just appreciate people coming out to help, because it’s hard work. Landscaping is hard work, as we’ve learned doing it for a while now.”

Activities at the three upcoming work days include weeding and mulching, along with the planting of shrubs and other plants.

“I learn from students doing it. I’m not a great landscaper. I’m not a master gardener. I’m not any of that, but I can spread pine straw, I can rake, I can pick up trash. I have learned a lot, both from students and from other faculty members, and parents who do have skills in terms of gardening or are master gardeners. We appreciate all comers,” said Farrey.
