Golfing Bulldogs Conclude a Record Season

From May 2009:

Chamblee’s golf team finished the 2009 season with dual fourth-place finishes at the region, and sophomore Alexis Johnson attained the second-lowest score in the tournament.
Even though the Bulldogs did not perform quite well enough to advance to state – as a top-two finish at region was required – the performance this season ranks among Chamblee’s best ever.
“The girls went to state last year, but when you throw in the boys, it was the best season we’ve ever had,” said head coach Kurt Koeplin.
A number of talented seniors including Clay Williams, Jack Winne, Lindsay Adams and Jasmine King are departing. But the youngest golfers are only expected to improve and lead to more triumphant seasons in the future.
“Alexis Johnson will continue to lead the girls as she’s done the last two years and she will only be a junior,” said Koeplin.
Koeplin also expects strong performances for the boys next season by juniors Jack Cellucci and Pierre Desdunes and freshman Matt Winne.
“Matt Winne was our number two golfer this year,” said Koeplin. “So I’m looking for him to compete for that number one spot next season.”
This season’s success by Chamblee’s golf team will expectantly improve with the rising talent that will compete for next season, including a rising freshman from Chamblee Middle School. Hopefully, the abundance of youth for the Bulldogs can make up for a slight lack in experience left by the Class of 2009’s departure.
“We have some young talent coming up,” said Koeplin. “Next year I think the boys and girls have a shot to win the county tournament.”
