Walking around the hallways, students may or may not know a woman that has been at Chamblee for many years and been an active part of keeping the school running. Loretta Boldon, a support staff here at Chamblee, retired earlier this month. In her final year at Chamblee, she was named Support Staff of the Year.
Although Boldon is an assistant administrator here at Chamblee, her calling to serve at a school did not come until later. She first started in the private sector working for big corporations.
“I’ve always worked in the private sector. I’ve worked for major corporations like McDonald’s corporate office in Los Angeles,” said Boldon.
When entering school administration at first she wasn’t sure what she would think about working with students.
“Going into a school was something completely foreign to me, and I didn’t know if I was going to like being around a bunch of kids, but it turned out that I did,” said Boldon.
She now loves working with students and she looks forward to working with students so they can meet their end goal– graduating.
She has enthusiasm not only for students but also with teachers. Evan Chapman, assistant principal of Chamblee, only had positive things to say about Boldon.
“She does so much for everybody. She’s just sweet, kind, and caring. You know if people are sick she offers them help and support,” said Chapman.
However, Chapman isn’t the only one who recognizes Boldon’s efforts and accomplishments here at CHS. Ms. Anderson expresses the same emotion.
“She helps out whenever teachers need help with anything, ” said Anderson.
Boldon’s experience has been a beautiful journey with CHS. She has worked at many different schools throughout the years and her experience at Chamblee has been a great one compared to other schools.
“Now that I have been here for eight years, it’s just like family. I’ve been to three other high schools, Chamblee seems to have the best student body, I really love the teachers here because you get a sense that they care,” she said.
However, our support staff of the year retired at the end of October this year. She plans on taking a break during November and December and starting whatever she wants to do at the start of 2025. Her retirement is sad for many. as she is a big helper , to Mr. Chapman as she is his assistant. Ms. Anderson says she will be very missed.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do without her. She does so much for me and the students, ” said Chapman.
“ I don’t like it, she’s counting down the days,” said Anderson.
Boldon on the contrary is very eager.
“I can’t wait, I’m looking forward to it,” she said.
The Support Staff of the year leaves Chamblee and she is excited to take a break and travel around the U.S so when you see her stop by and just thank her for her time at Chamblee.
