As high school football season has come to an end and basketball season has begun, the students at Chamblee High School have had a chance to experience both atmospheres and form opinions on them. Though opinions varied, football seemed to take the top rank as the favorite.
Although the Bulldogs finished their football season without a spot in the playoffs and with a two-nine win-loss record, many students admit to not paying much attention to the score and just enjoying the atmosphere.
“I’m usually not watching the game, I usually just talk to people. I don’t really care about the actual sport,” said Frances Cutler (‘27).
The atmosphere of football games seems to be the main factor that students enjoy more than basketball games. In order to create that atmosphere, lots of different factors are at play.
“I feel like football games are more of a big, collective effort to create the atmosphere of the games. We have a tailgate thing before the game, and all the parents and the booster club are there. We also have a dawg walk before. So there’s definitely a lot more stuff that goes into preparing for football games,” said cheerleader Lacey Rutherford (‘25).
Even though most students expressed clear favoritism towards football, basketball games also received praise.
“You can chirp a lot louder because they can hear you. I’d also say it’s better because the cheerleaders, you can hear them a lot better,” said Nathan Cutler (‘25) when asked about the atmosphere of the basketball games.
While some students have admitted that the score does not affect their mood because they simply aren’t paying attention to the game, others have a different take. Some students are watching the games very intently but the score isn’t what matters to them, it’s seeing their friends out on the field having fun.
“I love seeing Everett Boyer out there when we’re losing 50 to nothing. He’s my boy. He’s my dog. The score does not matter. I love this team,” said Nathan.
