At Steve Wesby Field, the Chamblee High School Baseball Team stepped onto the diamond for another season. The team played their first game against Riverwood High School on February 9th, 2026, swinging into their season.
“We’ve played a lot of really close games that have been edge-of-your-seat type [games]. It’s been great to see our players compete, both wins and losses, giving it their all and putting it all on the field,” said Coach Brian Ely.
The players on Chamblee’s baseball team have a mix of experienced veterans and rookies, all of whom work hard in hopes of a successful season.
“Our team has long-time players who know how to lead, mixed with a couple of guys who are newer to [playing], but everyone works hard,” said Hudson Ritchey (‘28).
At the beginning of the season, some newer players were still finding their place on the team. However, as the season progressed and the players became closer, their performance on the field improved.
“[My favorite part was] working together with the team all year, putting the work in, finally seeing it pay off by making it to the county tournament,” said Dutch Weber (‘29).

Teams are usually about how the players work together on the field, but for this year’s team, those connections extend off the field as well.
“The culture is great. We are all friends and hang out in the dugout and outside of practice,” said Jack Robinson (‘27).
Balancing their classes, their friendships, and their sport is a major commitment for many of the student athletes.
“[Being a] student athlete means [putting your career as a] student first, so I always dedicate time to school and make sure homework comes before baseball,” said Weber.
Robinson is staying optimistic through the final games of the regular season.
“We are bound for the playoffs, but we need to make sure we finish strong through the few tough final games,” said Robinson.
Many players are motivated from the wins thus far this season and are pushing through to hopefully make it to the playoffs this year.
“We are coming off two blowouts against Arabia Mountain,” said Ritchey. “We are going to carry this momentum into the playoffs and finish out a great season.”
