Dipping sauces are coveted by some as the essential ingredient to every meal. According to Eat This, Not That, there are multiple well-known and well-loved restaurants that are contenders for the best signature dipping sauces. From Chick-Fil-A sauce to Zax sauce to Canes sauce to Big Mac sauce to In-N-Out sauce, many think their favorite sauce can level up their chicken!
Even though the closest In-N-Out is in Texas, that doesn’t stop CHS students from preferring it over any other dipping sauce.
“In-N-Out sauce is my favorite because it’s so good with burgers; it just makes it so moist. It has sort of a salty taste that is also kind of sweet. [In-N-Out sauce] has onions in it, which makes it good with french fries also,” said Trinity Robins (‘27).
Because she loves In-N-Out sauce so much, Robins has tried to replicate the sauce at home.
“I [mixed] mayo, hot sauce, ketchup, and some onions and it tasted pretty similar! I would probably say [it was] a five to seven out of ten in relation to how close it tasted to the original sauce,” said Robins.
Unlike Robins, not everyone is as passionate about dipping sauces.

“I’ve had Chick-Fil-A sauce before, but I don’t really get the whole thing with it; it’s just not good. I also can’t really eat it with anything [because I’m vegetarian],” said James Alexander (‘29). “I think that any dipping sauces other than the basics- ketchup, mustard, ranch, and mayo- are just weird combinations and not it.”
On the other hand, Aubri Stephenson (‘27) has a strong liking for Chick-Fil-A’s signature dipping sauce and their other sauces.
“I would definitely say that Chick-Fil-A sauce is my favorite, but when I go there I do a three-sauce combo with Chick-Fil-A sauce, barbecue sauce, and ranch. It gives me a lot more variety so that I’m not getting tired of one of them. I like to take separate bites of each and alternate the order,” said Stephenson.
Stephenson expressed that the flavors are different enough to complement each other while also pairing well together.
“Out of those three, Chick-Fil-A sauce is my favorite because I like how it is tangy and contrasts the other two sauces, especially the comparative blandness of the ranch. Then, comparing it to the barbecue sauce, it is less extreme,” said Stephenson.
When asked about her favorite dipping sauce, Merryl Parrales (‘29) was very excited to share.
“I love Zax sauce from Zaxbys; it is so good. It gives the perfect taste of both sweet and salty, and it goes well with their chicken, fries, and toast,” said Parrales.
Additionally, Parrales likes to combine components of her meal to make it special.
“I sometimes put a piece of chicken on the toast and fold it like a hotdog bun. Then I add the sauce to it and that makes it really good,” said Parrales.
Many CHS students enjoy lots of different sauces with their chicken. From DIY sauces to sauce combos, these students are getting saucy with their sauce choices!
